As it seems, the idea of a Hulk with aggro timer on another player, sitting in a belt, happily mining is not a good one. Proof:
200+ M down the drain.
I logged in to another evening of bear growling, to find this guy, happily mining, with 2 containers of ore floating near him. Nice. Jumped to my faithful Tristan, warp to 0 to the BM of the cans, flip one, wait. And nothing. No reaction at all and I suppose he was a bit AFK, since there were no mining lasers coming from him, just 5 mining drones doing their job 15km away (LOL). I waited for 5 min and then, finally, I got some attention. The Hulk yellowboxed me, ordered the return of the mining drones, got some Acolyte I drones out and…nothing. Maybe the fact that I started orbiting and yellowboxed him in return scared him. So we watched each other for a while and I got bored of waiting, so I “encouraged” him to do something by stealing the second container. Still nothing. The thought of incoming reinforcements came to my mind, so I aligned to a safespot, just as a Maelstrom-class battleship landed 5 km away. Damn. Just as I was hitting warp, the Hulk finally aggressed me, but the engines blinked and I was away to safety.
Usually corpmates in the area mean bad news, after all the chances of dying to a fiery death increase, when dealing with more than 2 people. Anyway, I had a Hulk with aggro, which is a tasty treat, so I changed the Tristan for a stealth bomber and warped back 70km to the belt…to find the Hulk happily mining again and also stealing one of my cans. Christmas came early this year. Back to the station and this time my Brutix got the long straw. Undock, warp to the cans (‘Oh, please be there still!’) and Hulk is still there. Lock, stock, 7 smoking barrels, a Hulk wreck, quick sweep of the wreck, warp to safe spot…as the speed to warp reached 60%, the Maelstrom landed again, but too late, too late. Again, back to the station, stealth bomber, warp to the belt, to see what happens.
The Hulk pilot was away, but he got 3 corpmates in there, with the Maelstrom, a Typhoon-class battleship and an Anathema-class covert ops frigate, whose pilot was foolish enough to cycle his cloaking device. Meh. By this time I had no aggro timers on them, neither did they on me. I got to 17 km from the cans to prepare an ambush for an unsuspecting hauler, which might come to scoope the cargo. My hunch was correct, as the de-Hulked pilot came back with a Bestower-class industrial and scooped some cargo, from one of the cans (which he re-stole), warped away to put the cargo into storage and then came back and started watching my can. I thought “Come on, come on, steal…”, fingers hovering over the de-cloak and torpedo launchers, but he didn’t. Instead, the Typhoon did the dirty job, which was a smart move. Unfortunately, he started burning away upwards, so I got back to the station AFAP, jumped into my Hyperion-class battleship and warped back to an over-the-asteroids bookmark, landing 27km from the Typhoon. Drat. I started to approach him, MWD on…20 km…17km…18km…lol, whut? Apparently my Hyperion can reach about 770 m/s with MWD and the Typhoon can reach 810+ m/s. Seriosly…and as I stop the MWD, the Typhoon warps away.
Oh, well, as the phrase goes, “Some cherries you pop, some you don’t”, so I call it a night and go to lowsec to do some hauling and general carebearing, the thirst fro blood quenched.
