Logging on late in the night, with nothing else to do I decided to show my claws again. I jumped into my faithful Nemesis and set on to a local scan trip. Scan, scan, scan – Hulk. And a cargo container. This is a promising look to me, although the cargo container may not belong to the Hulk miner, but to an ex-wreck. Fortunately for me, it belonged to the miner. The character in question is old enough, over 4 years, but he didn’t change his corp much, which can mean he hasn’t got much experience. While watching, a group of rats lands and the Hulk dispatches them slowly with a group of Hammerhead IIs. Perfect. The not-so-perfect part is that the Hulk is very close to some asteroids and there will be no way to orbit him under 3km. Anyway, I bookmark the can (with my favorite label ‘BAIT’) and go away to have a smoke. It’s quite relaxing to me and gives the miner a chance to do something which, unbeknownst to him, will save him the can flip .
Coming back seven minutes later, I transferred the capsule to the Tristan and off I went to flip. In the mean time, the container endured a mitosis and now there were 2 containers. Checking their contents showed that the first was full of ore and the second of ore and mining crystals. Lolwhut?! I flipped the first one, with the ore only, got a bit away, due to the asteroids and started waiting. The Hulk saw my evil deed and wisely warped away to a station. Align to a safe spot, hit d-scan on the station, again, again…and a Curse-class recon ship appeared. Drat. I couldn’t fight him with the Tristan, so off I’m to the safe spot and then into the station, to get his Tech 2 brother. Scout and surprise. As it had happened not long ago, one of my victims got back with a industrial to collect the fruits of his labor, which were currently in my possession, and got a nasty surprise in the form of 2 volleys of CN Inferno Torpedoes.
I warped back to a predefined spot and there the Curse was, happily burning away from the containers, which again were his, giving me around 10 minutes of aggro timer. Seeing that, I decided to follow the Curse to get a bookmark for a close land and then engage him. No one steals from me! (lol). I got to 9km away from the Curse and we were quite a bit away from the containers, when he decided to go back. I followed him again of course. 17km away from the containers he stopped and I bookmarked a close landing spot and then warped to the station to get my Myrmidon, as she wouldn’t suffer much from the neutralizing power of the Curse. Also, she is not that expensive and had I lost her, this wouldn’t have dented my money account.
Undock, warp to 0, scram & web & guns hot and I landed to a perfect 8km from the Curse. I locked and started orbiting him and sent him a welcoming party of Hammerhead IIs, as he sent a party of his own. I tried to web and destroy his drones, but they did a bit of ‘meh’ damage to me, so I left them to their own devices and concentrated on their host. By the time they chewed through half of my shield, the Curse’s armor integrity was 50% and falling rapidly. Also rapidly falling was my capacitor, being drained by the recon ship, and then a bit of a fear stroke me, as I was about to lose the scram. I lost one cycle, but the Curse didn’t grasp the opportunity to get away and not long after that he exploded. I was so exhilarated…my first solo Tech 2 kill! Adrenaline rush, yay!
Also, 2 jetcans of ore and Tech 2 mining crystals. Yay!
It was a good night. Afandi, out.
