And now for something completely different…
The FAIL part.
And so, after the Typhoon kill me and my new acquaintance YummMini set off to a full of mistakes low-sec adventure with our Myrmidon- and Drake-class battlecruisers. Now, I realize I’ve made the first error while choosing the setup, since he asked me should he choose HML or HAM setup. I have almost no knowledge of the Caldari weapons, so I said HAM (I read somewhere it did more damage or something), but it should have been HML, which has more range as it seems, since my idea was that I’d be a meatshield and he’d do damage from afar.
Anyway, we jumped back into low-sec, to find a missioning Drake, which was not that good, since we couldn’t find him with d-scan. Luckily I had a Helios-class covert ops frigate nearby, so we jumped into the next system, not wanting to scare the Drake pilot, docked and I set with full speed to the Helios’ station with my pod. Soon I got back, scanned down the Drake, went back for the Myrmidon and we set off to catch the Drake. And that was mistake number 2, because he was 30+ km away from the point where we landed after the acceleration gate…accelerated us. Needless to say the Drake warped off, never to be seen again. After that I realized I should have pointed him with the Helios, until my companion got close. Meh, the stupidity and hot-headiness of the inexperienced. Then the ‘roam’ became a bit boring, all the systems on out way being empty, as if a plague has passed through them. To counter the boredom we engaged in the ‘fun’ activity of rat shooting, as to boost our security statuses.
Ratting, ratting, ratting and wham! – as we sit happily at a belt, a Tengu-class strategic cruiser appears. Hmm…a strategic cruiser vs 2 battlecruisers, nothing can go wrong, right? Right? LOL. We waited for a bit and the Tengu came to us, locked me and started shooting, kiting and speed tanking me around (staying about 18-20 km), doing volley damage of 1000 to my shields and 500 to my armor.A few seconds later another Tengu came, a fellow corpmate of our ‘target’ and pointed YummMini and things got from bad to worst.
At this moment I realized that we had no chances whatsoever, the reasons being many. My drones did thermal damage and the Tengu apparently had lot’s of thermal resist and in the few times when they hit him, they did…8 damage. Srsly. Also, I had no means to scram and web him. I tried to jam him with ECM drones – also fail. My fellow Drake pilot also tried to no avail to do something to that pesky Tengu, but as he was configured for a short range combat, he did nothing too. So, they popped me and then him. Luckily none of us was podded. The defeat left me with a very bitter aftertaste, but still that’s the way things happen in EVE and also, I’m a bit proud of my semi-active tanked Myrmidon for taking 31k damage before succumbing to her wounds.
Also, while writing this I found the probable fit of the Tengu that popped me: John Forsaken Seneca’s Tengu. At level V this beauty has very impressive stats. Now I have to think of a ship and fit to deal with such extreme ships.
