When I’m at work, I keep thinking about going home and logging to EVE and when I actually do it I’m a bit “Meh. So many possibilities…what to do?”. So, yesterday I chose the possibility of running Incursion sites. I had a brand new, shield-tanked, incursion-fit Megathron-class battleship in the hangar, so I took her out for a spin. Now, I’m a Gallente pilot and we favor slow-ass, close-range mega dps (< 1 km), armor-tanked ships, which usually die in a horrible fire, since you usually don’t land right onto your target. And after you land 10+ km you just stay there and watch the armor melt. Still, we Gallente are proud and stubborn people and nothing in the Universe can change our ships and our mindsets. We like to die in a fire. So, shield-tanking the Megathron left a bit of bad taste in my mouth (and the ship has no free medium slots for utility modules after the fitting), but the chances of making it into a shield fleet are much greater than getting into an armor fleet, especially if you don’t have a ‘shiny’ ship, i.e. faction battleship/Tech 3 cruiser. I don’t know how things are when you fly a logistics ship, maybe everyone loves and dry-humps you.
Anyway, there was an incursion site 12 jumps away so off I went. Recruitment in the local incursion channel was a bit slow, with some strange chat occurring in the beginning, leading me to the thoughts of incursion griefers, but soon I got an invitation. I warped to the fleet’s rally point and felt a bit like that. Machariels, Nightmares, Navy-version ships, command ships…and me, in my plain Megathron, which to be fair performed very well, when the targets were cruiser-sized and above or a webbed and target-painted frigate. I got a stroke of luck too, because the fleet I joined had a good FC and people who were experienced and almost no tagging was required, everyone knew what to shoot first. Also props to the logistics, they did fantastic job in the Override Transfer Arrays, keeping us alive, while we dealt only with the Deltolle spawns. All in all, it was kinda fun, especially when in one of the runs I warped by mistake together with the anchor and got the aggro from all the NPCs. It was a bit scary for a bit, but again our logis used they abilities very well and my shield never got down below 50%. Maybe soon I’ll be sporting a Machariel-class battleship myself. Those BPCs look cheap enough.
After 2 hours of incursion running I decided to go to sleep and left the fleet…only to get into a chat with an acquaintance of mine, who offered me to team up and do some ninja salvaging/mission runners griefing. Damn, why now…oh, well, 1 hour less sleep for me. So we teamed up, I changed the ship to a Brutix-class battlecruiser and off we went. Alas, nothing interesting happened in that 1 hour period. Either we missed the mission-runners by a couple of minutes or they didn’t engage at all, so after the time was up I went to bed.
It wasn’t near the best EVE game night I’ve had, but at least it wasn’t “meh”. I should definitely go again for incursion running.
